Rev. Dr. Rix Threadgill - Senior Pastor

Rix grew up in Fairhope, AL, part of a large family including twelve siblings from all over the world. He attended Davidson College where earned a degree in History.  He served in an internship at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, Dunwoody, GA and earned his Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary in 2001. He subsequently served as Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, NC from 2001-2005 and as Associate Pastor here at Buford Presbyterian Church from 2005-2012. Rix earned his Doctor of Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary in 2011. He took over as Pastor of Loyd Presbyterian Church in LaGrange, GA from 2012-2020. He returned home to BPC in September 2020.

Rix met his wife Leigh while both were students at Davidson College. Leigh is from Atlanta and attended the Lovett School from pre-K through graduation. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Georgia Tech and currently works as the Deputy City Administrator for the City of Berkeley Lake. They have three children: Kate, Joseph, and Adeline.

Rev. Carrie Barnes - Associate Pastor

Carrie, a native of Summerville, South Carolina, grew up “running up and down the aisles” of Dorchester Presbyterian Church where she was ordained as a Teaching Elder in October 2013. Carrie is a graduate of Presbyterian College and Columbia Theological Seminary. Prior to seminary, Carrie served as Director of Christian Education in churches in Tampa, Florida and Charleston, South Carolina.

Carrie is married to her best friend, Hamilton. Together they have two beautiful children, Miller and Violet. They also enjoy smoking BBQ and cooking, watching college football (even if Hamilton does pull for the wrong team) and hanging out with friends and family.

Current Session

In the PC(USA), Presbyterian congregations govern themselves through elected representatives, Elders, who make up the Session. Session members typically serve three year terms. Each year, one class of Session members graduate and are replaced by new members elected from the congregation. This provides stability and continuity in governing the congregation. The Senior Pastor moderates the Session which is headed by the Clerk of Session, neither of whom are voting members. Much of the work of directing the mission and ministry of the church is done by committees, in conjunction with the professional staff. These standing committees report to the Session. In addition to the Elders, members of the congregation are encouraged to serve on committees as well.
